So you have a great product or service now you need customers. You will want to get as much benefit as you can from your hard work. One way to do this is by finding ways to boost your conversion rate. this will mean you can increase your profits without actually needing more traffic to your website.
Writing a sales letter may seem easy to you. I mean, you know how great your offer is but are you conveying that to your potential customers? Writing sales copy that actually converts browsers in to buyers takes a certain skill.
Here we are going to look at 5 simple tips for improving your copy to drive more sales.
Boost Your Conversion Rate With These 5 Tips
1. Grab Attention Immediately – the Power of the Headline
You never get a second chance to make a first impression. That’s why it is important to grab your reader’s attention with your headline. The headline needs to immediately hit home with the benefits. Everyone’s immediate thought is “what’s in it for me?” You need to answer that immediately and if you can add some curiosity, that’s even better.
So here’s what you need to do…
Sit down and really look at your offer. You need to decide what the TOP benefits are. Don’t concentrate on what you think, but on which of these benefits your prospects will value the most.
Imagine you are in a busy street market, trying to get your prospect’s attention. All your competitors are there trying to do the same thing. They’re all spouting their wares, jumping up and down, trying to get attention.
You need to stand out and grab their attention. Your research should have identified the major pain points of your market. Your copy needs to convey that you understand their problem, their pain and have the solution.
It is as if you are saying “You have this problem that’s been annoying you forever. Now you can get rid of it once and for all.” If you can also promise to get rid of their problem quickly and easily, that’s even better.
So let me give you an example…
“Discover the #1 Fat Loss Trick Top Fashion Models Use Whenever They Need to Quickly and Easily Lose 15 Pounds – Now Just Imagine What It Will Do For You!”
The psychology behind this is simple.
- It promises a big benefit.
- It arouses curiosity and includes some social proof.
- Your prospects want to know what this trick could be. They know that fashion models would need to do that on occasions so it gives credibility.
2. Make It All About Them
Sometimes we can prejudge what will work. You may think that your prospects won’t read a long sales letter or an hour long webinar.
But think about this. Would YOU read a book if it was all about you? If you saw a book titled, “The Life and Times of [Insert Your Name Here]” would you read it. I’m guessing you would. For one thing you would be curious what it had to say about you and to be honest your ego would want to read it.
The point is, you would identify with the topic, find it fascinating and be hooked. The same goes for your audience. They’re self-centered and predominantly concerned about themselves, their problems, and their feelings.
Your sales copy needs to be all about your prospects, and you will hold their attention. They will read to the end of your copy because they want to get the whole story.
That is why your copy needs to use words like “you” and “your,” as opposed to “I” and “me”. No one cares about you, it’s all, “What’s in it for me?” Make sure your copy answers that question.
3. Create Your Copy For Skimmers
Now even if your copy appeals to your prospects with a headline that has grabbed them, sadly not everyone will want to read to the end. Time is short and many people will skim down the page.
You want to make the page or letter as easy to consume as possible. Avoid long paragraphs and blocks of text. Format your copy so that even skimmers can easily identify the key benefits.
You can do this by breaking up the text in to shorter paragraphs, using bullet points or highlighting important points. Also add a P.S. to the end of your sales copy or emails. Some people will go to the end of your page to see whether they want to read the whole thing.
Images can help to break up text and be engaging.
To see how well your copy is doing on this you need to think like a skimmer. Examine your own page or letter and skim the headlines and bullet points. Do they convey your main points and hold your attention? If not, go back and improve it.
4. Instill Urgency
So ideally your prospects were hooked and read to the end of your sales page. They’re interested in your offer. You need to have a clear call to action telling them exactly what to do next.
If you have done a good job then hopefully many will sign up or purchase. But some will procrastinate. They may decide to come back later. Sadly even those that intend to do just that, will get distracted and may never return. They may forget that your offer is exactly what they need.
You want to prevent this procrastination and one way to do that is by instilling a sense of urgency. You need to give them a reason to order immediately. They need to feel like they can’t even leave the page until they’ve placed their order.
How do you instill urgency to boost conversions?
There are a few methods for creating this urgency. One really effective way is to inject the fear of missing out.
For example…
• Have a limited number of offers available. This can increase urgency but you don’t want to shooot yourself in the foot by limiting sales.
• Offer a limited-time discount that makes them feel like they’re missing out on a great deal if they delay. If they know they want it then they will not want to pay more by delaying.
• Create a bonus for the first 50 people who order. This is one of the easiest ways to boost your conversion rate because no one wants to miss out on an awesome freebie.
Any of these ideas can work. Make people feel like they’re in danger of missing out on something really fantastic, and they’ll be hitting your order button more often.
And the final way to boost conversion rate…
5. Track, Test and Tweak
Peter Drucker was right when he wrote: “What gets measured gets managed.”
You can put all these ideas into action but how will you know they are working? The only way to know for sure whether your conversions have improved is by tracking and testing. You need to do this one step at a time.
You do this by A/B split testing. What you do is make one change to your sales letter—such as the headline—and then use an A/B split-testing script to randomly send traffic to the two versions of your letter.
You then keep the headline that brings the most conversions and repeat with another headline. Then keep the best of those two and test against another until you end up with the best converting headline.
Once you have identified the best headline you then go through the same process with every other part of your sales letter. You should end up with the best converting copy possible.
